Message from 'Dr. Meenesh C Shah' President of the society

The organic market in India and across the World is expanding rapidly as it has the potential to create a healthy agro ecosystem and ensuring chemical free produce to the consumers. India holds a true potential to be the leader in organic produce given its diversified agro-climatic regions for various agricultural products including dairy. However, as it is a well-known fact that about 80% of agriculture is done by small and marginal farmers, it is important that they are organised and the most prudent model for this is cooperative form of enterprises realising the economies of scale by aggregation and subsequently providing suitable market linkages and thus maximising the return to the farmers. To realise the potential and cater to the demand for the organic products, I am happy that with guidance from the Ministry of Cooperation, several institutions of repute like NDDB, GCMMF (Amul), NAFED, NCDC and NCCF have come together to form an umbrella organisation- National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL), registered under the Multi State Cooperative Societies Act 2002. Several other organisations are also progressively joining it as members to take forward the vision of “Sahakar Se Samriddhi”. This national level organisation will undertake and promote aggregation, branding and marketing of organic products through facilitating various activities including certification, production, testing, procurement, storage, processing, labelling, packaging, logistics support etc., of organic products besides creation of knowledge repository, research and development in the field of organic farming. In true sense, setting up of National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL) is a big turning point to usher in organic revolution in the agriculture and allied sectors with an aim that on account of better price realisation and market access, farmers will adopt organic farming. NDDB which has helped bringing about White Revolution in the country by promoting dairying through cooperatives is the chief promoter in NCOL and similarly other promoters and members are also bringing their expertise to jointly take forward this organic movement and achieving the objectives of NCOL. I invite all the cooperative societies, farmer organisations, apex bodies, scientific community to join this movement and extend support in a big way to make this endeavour a major success.
